  • Oh, brother! Honestly, I could see a black background saving some power on a CRT based monitor. However, with more and more people switching to LCD based monitors such energy savings are going out of the window. The back light on such monitors in on whether the screen is completely black or completely white. So, there is no savings from this with an LCD. This is just another example of people proposing some feel-good solution to a (in this case nonexistent) problem so that other will think that they are doing something when, in fact, they are not. Personally, I suspect that switching to and LCD based monitor would do more to save power than only viewing web pages with dark backgrounds would, though I don't really have any numbers that I can cite to back up that suspicion.
  • I guess every little bit helps.
  • Riiiight. Well, it's the thought that counts. I guess. Had this come out in the beginning of April, I would have chalked it up to another genuis Google prank.
