I think they were hinting at it but if they wanted to do a film or more shows they left it open.

They leave that for the viewer to decide. Open ending if there ever was one.

The assumption you're supposed to make is that they died. However not showing it, opens it up for movies or another series.

No. But I thought those men that came in was gonna kill him but it just went off. I dont like when things end like that. I like to know every little detail.

Only someone new to the Soprano's could assume that the ending is ambigous, like I have read many places. He died, clearly. Early episodes in the series talk about how after you get hit, you know nothing about it. Hence the fade to black. Tony was a great character, an anti-hero so most fans can't deal with the idea of his death. However it was right for the show to end that way.
