Sterotypically, if both are pierced, he's probably gay and not bi.

There is no sure way to tell someone's sexual preference by the jewelry they like to wear or where they wear it! Now, if you had asked about his nipple rings, then I'd say you can always be absolutely positive, that he is definately and without a doubt . . . Nah, just kidding! You can count on pierced ears on a guy, including either or both, simply meaning he likes jewelry, has some of it to wear and enjoys doing so for others to see!

Stereotypically, a piercing in the right ear meant that a man was not just gay, but a gay man who preferred a generally female role in bed. A piercing in the left ear meant a gay who preferred a generally male role in bed. Then some highly visible men who identified as straight came along, such as Willie Nelson, and got their left ear pierced. It became a fad for straight men to have their left ear pierced. It communicated that the guy was hip, cool, and so on. Today you will frequently see men with piercings in both ears or in the left ear. It doesn't mean that he's gay or straight, only (as another poster pointed out) that he likes jewelry. Rikki

It was a fad that seemed to be popular in the homosexual male community as a way of making it known you where gay without saying it. Like all fads its died out.
-
I heard that a while back, about the right ear being pierced, but I don't think it is indicative of sexual preference these days.

Well, it's a good thing we don't go by those stereotypes anymore, because that would mean i got the wrong ear pierced.... I got my left ear pierced, and I am gay... of course going by the older meaning that would say that I take the male role.... lol. So yeah, those stereotypes are dumb, and obviously mean nothing. The only reason I even got my left ear pierced is because I thought it would look better than my right ear. So yeah, my point is that it really doesn't mean anything either way... it's just a piercing. (I love piercings btw....esp. nipple rings) Love 2Q2BSTR8

only if it's Thursday and he's wearing green and yellow.

I believe, at least in my area, that "code" is quite outdated.

As others have pointed out, this was stereotypical only and not fact. I know a lot of straight men with the 'wrong' ear pierced, as I do gay men with the same. And I know several straight men with both ears pierced, including my son. It doesn't mean anything any more, just that they like the way it looks. :-)

Those codes went out after the 1970's.
-
I think it just means he likes having earrings in both ears.
-
i see old guys with piercings as 'masons', and younger guys as 'idiots' i think it's fairly accurate.
-
i feel if a man has both pierced he's gay or bi
-
If the man has two piercings in the left ear, this means he is gay submissive. Especially if worn with white or cream denim.
-
that's all a myth.

I have my right ear pierced and im not gay. Ask my girlfriend, lol. I just like the look of it my right ear instead of my left. My roommate has both pierced because his girlfriend wanted him too. So no, which ear doesnt matter any more.
