What kind of paint is it. If it's oil-based, you shouldn't apply it over a latex or acrylic base, ever. And it may be too smelly for indoors, too. I'd wait and find the right paint, unless the job is a small one like a piece of furniture or some trim.

I'd ask a pro - I accidentally used a latex "deck" paint a couple years ago and I swear the smell is burnt in my nostrils still. Even after a couple coats of primer and a coat of fresh paint -yikes. So yeah- ask a pro.

Depending on which room you are planning to paint? If it's a bedrom, then I would have to say no. but a bathroom or kitchen would be alright. The best would be at ask someone at your local paint or hardware store.
