I generally tip 20% because when I was a waitress i only got $2.13 an hour...they rely on tips to make a decent living. If they gave me bad service, I tip a little less, and if they give me good service, a little more.

i hate tipping - but my friends are waitresses and bartenders LOL so i tip the minimum -im a tightwad with my money

I try to tip well because being a server is something I would never want to do myself. A good server is polite, works hard and facilitates a good meal. I'm happy to show my appreciation in the form of a good tip. That said, I don't agree with the almost agressive assertion that servers are somehow entitled to an automatic tip simply becasue they don't get paid well. That's the way the system is set up and I had nothing to do with it. If you don't like making $2 an hour, lobby to change the pay system or find another area of work. I'm happy to say thanks for good service with a few dollars, but in no way to I feel compelled to support wait staff.

My tipping depends soley on how the service was.

I hate it. When I was in high school, I worked in the electronics department of a discount store, and I resented the fact that if someone takes an order for food and then brings that food out to a customer they get a tip, but if I take an order for a VCR and then take the VCR out to a customer I don't. Discrimination!

I try to tip well because I have served before and it is a horrible thankless job. They don't get paid nearly enough to do it.

I tip out of appreciation and to encourage the servers. I don't have to do it, but I believe it is the right thing to do and the most loving thing to do. I always feel very good about tipping. It does more for me than for the person receiving it.

The whole concept of tipping for service is ridiculous. I think a server should be paid for the job they do, and that should be the end of it. It all started when rich people wanted special favors and weren't ashamed to pay extra for it. Now it has turned into if you don't tip, you are a bad person.

I hate the whole idea of tipping and I USED TO BE A WAITRESS! When you go out for a $50 overpriced meal, you know the establishment is making a lot of money. They should be paying their employees what they are worth and not relying on the customers to put money in the owners pockets AND the servers pocket. And what is up with tipping for a haircut?!?! I can't afford to do anything anymore with all the tipping that is "required"

i feel i have to, that is why i tip...to be honest. and then i would FEEL bad if i didnt
