Both Liverpool Street & Fenchurch Street Stations in London serve Essex, and being as Essex is a county it depends what part of Essex you're travelling to.
Driving - it takes a little over an hour if the roads are clear - about an hour and a half if you go at sensible speeds.
Public transport? for ever!!! - train to London, cross London and go to Fenchurch Street and get a train from there
I don't know but I think you'd have to change at Euston, adding something to the journey time.
Thats a bit vague, so I did it form Milton Keynes Central, to Chelemsford in Essex. Takes about 2 hours by train, more info here http://ojp1.nationalrail.co.uk/en/pj/jp
