  • that is real cheap, metal place settings will last longer.
  • if you don't have enough money to buy another silverware this would be a right thing to do. economing on the forks and knives. so what if they are disposable? is that means that we can't use them more than once? you can wash them all you want. you are not crazy.
  • We have both metal, but we have saved some plastic ones too. That way, on trips and such (say field trips) you can bring silverwear without worrying about saving it. Or for school lunches in case you throw it away.
  • My dad has gone so far as asking me to wash plastic silverware, foam plates, and ziplock bags.... We're poor and sometimes we can't afford more. It's economical and Earth-friendly.... well more Earth friendly than throwing them out "every" time anyway I guess!
  • I do that, too! My kids take them to school to eat their snacks and bring them home. It's better then adding to some landfill!
  • yes...it saves time and money....
  • Sure I wash plastics silverware. ( Plastic SILVER ware? Sure I eat off the plastic china with it. While drinkin out of a plastic glass.) I don't make a special effort to do it, and I rarely handwash it, but I more often put them in the dishwasher than the recycling bin, after a few times they get unusable and they get tossed. I got a fistful of forks spoons knives etc in the drawer. But, mind you, this does not mean you are not crazy. I personally think your out of your gourd. But then I am totally insane, I mean I wash plastic silverware.
  • yes, it shouldn't go to waste
  • Maybe if it's dishwasher safe melamine utensils but not just plastic. They could melt or get thrown about because they don't weigh enough and if there is an element at the bottom, they could stick and melt right into it. It's seems safer to throw them out and use more plastic. They are very inexpensive. And I wouldn't trust plastic with all it's little nicks and things to get clean every time.
  • Oh wow already nitpicking and only a fiance...
  • I have never done that. There are different kinds of plastic "flatware/utensils"..the very flimsy kind, which we throw away, and the more expensive sturdy kind, which we keep. I hand wash those..one needs to be careful about where in the dishwasher one places items made of plastic..the utensil compartment is usually on the bottom nearest the heating coils..most instruction manuals tell you to place all plastic items in the top section, away from the heating coils..you could end up with a plastic meltdown ! :)
  • Please read about the dangers of pthalates and BPAs in plastics. Washing plastics in the dishwasher is dangerous! Hand-wash and never reuse water bottles. Google 'dangers of plastics.' It's everywhere. I just found out about this. Freaking me out! I had no clue and of course have been putting all our sippy cups and plastic flatware and dishes in the dishwasher. Seriously, check it out! Jenn
  • Dont do it,youll ruin the pump.
  • No, they are disposable for a reason.
  • my G-ma does =)
  • Yeah I do it all the time, i mean it's cheap cuz they expect u 2 use 1 time, so why don't u use it more times that dat!
