  • Depression due to poor health and disease, traumatic life events, and day to day stressors can cause memory loss. Middle aged people are at a stage in their lives when all these causative factors are present to a greater or lesser extent. Eating "comfort foods", or giving yourself a "treat" at your favorite restaurant from time to time will help reduce stress and thus improve memory. On the other hand, it will not help your cardiovascular health if your comfort foods are high in saturated fats and refined sugars. I would recommend eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and some lean meats. Blueberries and grapefruits are my favorites. I also recommend getting plenty of exercise.
