  • This is the ususal system in the UK. People are only held in jail, or "on remand" prior to a trial if it is a very serious or violent crime or they're thought likely to abscond. Most offenders are charged then released "on bail." Did Illinois previously hold all people charged prior to trial of have they abolished "cash bail" where people had to buy themselves out of pre-trial imprisonment?

      That is correct. Such is the case, as far as I'm aware, in 48 other states. I may be mistaken, but I think one other state has cash bail only for certain crimes, like violence.
  • Crime could lessen. It makes criminals think twice of their actions, since the state of Illinois, mainly Chicago has an extremely high incidence of violent crimes, homicide and gun violence.
