Why would all these people get stuck at these airports during the recent holidays ?

They want to go somewhere * They've booked a flight * They go to the airport to catch their flight * Surprise, the airline has cancelled the flight due to not enough people to fill the plane. Not enough people because Covid prevents the number of people that would NORMALLY be on that flight from being on that flight. * And so if they STILL want to go, they have to wait for the next full plane going to their destination, and hope that it's not COMPLETELY full when they sign on to the waiting list.

They are in need to travel, even as flight cancellations in the US have hit a new peak in a Christmas season hit hard by the Covid pandemic and bad weather.
