David Beckham because football is an international sport,and the other sport isn't so only few would know of these sports stars.

Michael Jordan's sport only has a mass audience in limited parts of the world and David Beckham's sport has a world-wide audience. I would say that David Beckham has been seen playing his sport by far more people than has Michael Jordan. For example, I know of Michael Jordan, I think he plays basketball, but I've never seen him.

Right now Beckham has all the headlines, and football (soccer) is more widespread. Jordan however, did for the NBA and basketball in general what few if any other basketball player could. In the pinnacle of his career Jordan WAS the most recognizable athlete in the world. Most of Beckham's claim to fame has to do with his good looks, marketing strategies, marriage and outside the field activities anyway. He's a good player but not to the level some people want to put him in, just my opinion.

what is this crap... Beck is a pop icon. as far as skills and being an athlete is concerned, he is just in the same class as henry, ronaldo, ronaldinho. He's popular internationally because of his looks... period. most & i say MOST, of his fans are women. Michael Jordan is an athlete above all... not some red carpet cash cow with a boyband type of charm. Michael jordan dominated the league he played in and won six titles. He is the epitomy of winning. Even his name is synonymous with winning that it is being used in sentences describing a persons feat of physical excellence. Owww... and yeah, i dont agree with the bias statement that soccer is an international sport. i know a lot of countries (not just the US) where soccer IS NON-EXISTENT and basketball is king

As much as I'd like to say MJ, the reality of it is is that soccer is the most popular sport in the world, therefore DAVID BECKHAM!
