They are culturally interesting, but worthless as far as judging true beauty.
-
They are marginally better than children's talent shows because at least the contestants choose to parade themselves!
-
For adults they are fine , for children I find them distasteful. Little girls made up to look like women is pandering to a very unhealthy audience IMHO.

I think there stupid and the biggest waste of time. Don't reward people for beauty and turn it into a huge competition. You're sexy, congratulations, you don't need to turn into a superstar and be world known for it. The kid beauty pageants are worse. They're teaching kids that looks matter way too much and an age wayyyy too young. Just watch Little Miss Sunshine. That girl was cuter than all the other barbie girls there.

It's about the same as my opinion of almost any survey. I have wondered if the crown was plastic.

i would never be a participant in one... i am just plain ugly.... i got on the scale today and I weigh 199.5 lbs.. i am huge...
-
I think they are as attractive and less useful than cattle markets.

I think they support unhealthy impressions of appearance, and unhealthy concepts of confidence and self-worth. If beauty pageants celebrated *Real* beauty, then I wouldn't have half as many problems with them, but they don't, they only showcase and reinforce all the dysfunctional definitions of "Beauty" as every other mainstream medium. In these pageants, on television, in movies, everywhere, you see these concepts of "Beauty" epitomised by stick insects with big boobs and perfect hair. Those impressions just aren't healthy, and I think holding a pageant dedicated to them is just plain sick. If consenting adults want to take part in them though, that's their choice. The main thing I take issue with is the people who abuse their children by putting them into the unnatural and emotionally unhealthy environment of Children's Beauty Pageants.

I wish there were more real WOMEN in beauty pageants. Many of the contestants look like anorexics or 12 year old boys with boob jobs. I like real woman curves, and hips. I think most men, if they think about it, find this more sexually appealing even if they've been brainwashed into having a gut "that's pretty" response to the thin girls. I don't like the pretense of the "talent" and the Q & A that they do in many pageants. It's about beauty, or at least it should be, not about their talents and minds. I'll admit Miss America is a LOT better at rewarding talent and mind over looks, which is why I don't watch it, but would watch Miss USA, which is mostly shallow and brings hotter women to the table and the finale. I do enjoy dating girls with the beauty pageant contestant mindset, if they're also blessed with a woman's figure, as opposed to a stick's figure. I'm unashamed to admit I'm kind of attracted in a sick way to the shallow and the superficial, and the self-absorbed. Go figure.

I myself am into pageants and what a lot of people don't understand is that it is a hobby and passion. It's just like anything else in life that you love like soccer, painting, dramatics, foreign language and many more! It's something that gives everybody a self confidence boost! It feels amazing to accomplish something that you literally work all year for! You have to learn how to talk, sit, stand, and walk right all the time! People don't give us enough credit! It's a hard but yet rewarding life and people might think it's weird but I might think soccer, painting, dramatics, or foreign language is weird but I don't because don't judge something if you haven't even tried it!

I don't like them at all. It puts wayyyyyy to much emphasis on looks and superficial things. Women should never feel they have to compete in a "beauty" pageant. Women are paraded around like things and not people. Oy, the thought of it makes me cringe.

Honestly speaking I look at the beauty pageant as displaying only their beauty. As what others saying, Pageant is to boost the womans true beauty, self-esteem and smartness. My only question is how will they know that the woman is beautiful inside and out, they only seen that particular candidate in that pageant..

i think there a complete disgrace to our cultures. they portray the picture of how all "beautiful" women should look...skinny as a toothpick. yea okay. im a size 2/3. and when i see these tiny women all toned and gorgeous to me say there "FAT"... i mean comon how does that make a teenager growing up feel. talk about lower my self esteem and make me feel like crap. then these already perfect women actually compete against eachother??! every person is beautiful in his/her own way...and dont let nebody else tell you otherwise. you are your own person.

A few hot chicks some would look even hotter without so much make up and put on a few pounds and thats about it really
-
Good for young girls self-esteem
-
