I have two cats. The large Russian Blue couldn't catch a mouse if you dropped it in his food dish. The other one (known in small circles as "the evil one") might be a mouser if she was trained, but she prefers mauling humans.

I've had both of my cats since they were eight weeks old. They never had the opportunity to learn how to mouse from their mothers. There's never been a mouse inside for them to chase but I have seen them play with a bug until it "broke" and wasn't fun anymore. I can't imagine they would do much better with a critter of the rodent persuasion.

I've had many cats but none have been good mousers.

I have two cats. Tibby (12) is getting on a bit now and hardly ever goes outside. So no, she doesn't catch anything. Plus she's too fat. My other cat Mouse (6) sometimes catches mice (I HATE it when he does) but he hasn't brought anything home for ages I'm happy to say.

my kitty is a great mouser - but she wont let go of it when i want to dispose of it -

For one of my cats, hunting is benath him. The other two are excellent at catching lizards, so I guess that would make them lizarders. It's a constant challenge to rescue the little things before they become a meal.

My cat has never had the opportunity to catch a mouse, as we don't have any around to catch. However, she does love to paw at bugs, and catch them so she can eat them, so if she had been given the chance to catch mice, she may have taken it. But, we'll never know...

No, but I have dogs (Labradors & Golden Retrievers) and they are all excellent mousers. In the fall, when the cold weather hits, it's not uncommon for me to find them with a little prize when I serve them their morning breakfast. And once, not long ago, one came home with a prized catch in her mouth from the field. :) Can't say they don't earn their keep.
