What is your opinion about the murder/crime rate in South Africa, will you come here for a holiday?

• i know, i was even told to take off my jewellery going to the shopping mall by my brother in law! i thought he was joking as when i lived there it wasnt a problem!

• very true, and the saddest is that our president Thabo Mbeki says that the crime is under control, we cant even sleep with a window open or they will put a poison in your house that will make you sleep right through while they rape your wife and kids, steal everything, kill your dogs and cut your throat, i wonder what is going to happen with the 2010 soccer world cup??? i hope the whole world boycott this so that our leaders will wake up, think they should bring back the death penalty, our prisons are over populated...

• It is sad considering how beautiful a country South Africa seems to be. I see pictures of Cape Town and can't help but want to visit, but it isn't worth risking a violent incident just to see it.

• @Azraff: Its been like that for a while now (few years).

  @Parra you make it sound like every single person that walks the street get mugged or hijacked. I admit its a lot worse then some other countries. If you stay away from the bad parts of town and just aware of your surroundings there is not much to worry about. Then again why am I trying to make it sound good less people demanding to visit there means prices go cheaper for those that do. ;D Take Parra1's advice and don't go its not safe.
