In fact, nobody knows what goes on beneath our feet, so it's possible for a geothermal hot spot to cool off and then the power company has to start paying for fuel to keep the steam going. Tucson, AZ got its name from an indian word meaning "muddy spring". The hot mud supported the town until an earthquake in 1859 stopped the spring, and it hasn't restarted yet. So take that "renewable" part with a grain of salt.
