  • Because England colonised almost half of the world, and took their sports with them. Those sports were eventually played by those nations. Eventually those nations made England sports their own.
  • I think it shows the influence the US has on world culture, the same way people in other countries want Levi's, Coca Cola, and know all the hollywood stars. Minus Soccer, Rugby, adn Cricket, the other four are distinctly American/Canadian. I would have a hard time thinking cricket or rugby are higher on the list than motor sports, whether it is NASCAR in the US or Formula 1 elsewhere. In the US cricket and soccer are non-entities and would be lower on the list than golf, tennis, bowling, or pool. Nobody cares about soccer in the US except for a few lost souls.
  • Just because we get most of media's attention!! We are broadcasted worldwide! I'm sure there is more african people playing some other sports and chinese people too, with different rules, but we don't see them as much... In numbers, those (unknown to me) sports are TECHNICALLY more popular :(
  • Football is the most popular sport in the world because it is so simple, we used to walk home from school kicking a rock to each other, no equipment needed. (plus it's Gods game, why do you think he gave us a nice arch that fits around a football nicely). US/Canadian football is popular in numbers because of the large population of the US not because it reaches other countries in any great way, Base ball maybe a little more so though. Rugby and Cricket are popular because the Brits took them to their colonies and when you've got a nation that loves cricket as much as India with their population it is bound to be one of the most popular sports in the world. Hockey, not sure about that, probably because of the US, Canada and Scandanavian numbers. In my opinion way better than US Football or Baseball, still..... i'll pretty much watch any sport. By the way these are just my opinions not based on any research.
  • Because they are all played in popular countries which are then in turn screened by big tv companies such as sky
  • Conquer the world, make them play your games.
