  • I'm sure there are. Just because someone doesn't eat meat, doesn't mean they don't eat cake, cookies, candy, ice cream, drink liters of soda, etc. I'm sure noone ever got fat on a strict diet of vegetables, though.
  • I think there is some, but on a per capita bases, compared to meat eaters, very very few.animal fats create more fat in the body then vegetable fats.
  • Yes. Lot of them. Cause they eat meat when nobody's watching ;)
  • Why not? You get veg burgers, fries, pizza... etc.
  • Oh yes. I know one in particular that replaced meats with donuts and cheetos.
  • Yes. I had a fat vegetarian room mate. It was those Big Wheel ice cream bars that she kept buying at the 7-eleven, I think.
  • Yes. I have a friend who was a dedicated vegetarian for twenty years. All that rice and beer and bread made him very pudgy. Finally, he developed a "pre-diabetic condition" which meant he was right on the edge of diabetes. He lost the weight -- but he went back to eating lean meat. Peanuts, which replace the protein vegetarians don't get from meat, are extremely fattening also.
  • Look at a hamster.... :-)
  • Yes i am a vegetarian and i am fat. The reason is because it is hard for vegetarians to get the protein they need which helps fill you up so we crave high fatty foods.
  • As a nutritionist I have come across plenty of overweight vegetarians. This is because a vegetarian diet needs planning and organisation and in this stress drive society many people are time poor, so veggies tend to eat 'quick food' such as cheese dishes or veggie ready meals. www.JeannetteJackson.com
  • It is interesting because I thought that vegetarians were all skinny and waif like to the point of breaking if a strong wind blew until I met this waitress who was nearly obese at a latin cafe' and I asked her about these meat pastries and her reply was that she didn't know because she was a vegetarian and had been one since she was a little girl and saw veins in the fish that her mother was preparing for dinner. She admitting to trying some chicken a year ago and vomited. Then I had a friend who announced that he was getting married and that his fiancee was a vegetarian even though he was a meat lover. I met her when we all went out to dinner. He was thin, so I figured she would be too. Nope. She was chub. And, we all ate salads that night rounded off with desserts later.
  • There are not many but I've known a few.
  • absolutely
  • All of the vegetarians I know are fat.. I've yet to meet a thin vegetarian.
  • Most of my vegetarian & vegan friends are well covered:)
  • I think the question should be "are there any thin vegetarians?" Such a diet will almost certainly be high in carbohydrates and this causes the body to store fat. That's why the Atkin's diet works, no carbs, no fat. In fact, a person on an all-meat diet cannot remain obese no matter how many calories they eat. Really! If you don't believe me try it on a overweight pet. Have you ever met anyone, anyone at all, on an all- meat diet who was fat?
