  • Try washing only in cold water. Cotton can shrink even in warm water. I wash them in hot water once they get to that 'needs shrinking to get back into shape' stage. The color will bleed less too in cold. And if you really care about the color, try finding a soap powder, and not a detergent.
  • I turn all my clothes inside out to save the colors from fading and use cold water.
  • I find that if I let my jeans air dry instead of putting them in the dryer they hold up better. I see the difference because when I grew up we didn't have a dryer at home so we had to hang things on the line. Now, as an adult we have a dryer so I noticed the wear and tear a dryer can take on a pair of jeans.
