I want to get into an apprenticeship in new jersey and become an electrician. what do i have to do?

Start looking and calling electricians in the phone book and ask if they are taking any apprentices, also, hit the construction sites and start asking the electricians if they need a helper.

Start by learning more about the trade (to make sure you're suited for it), by doing some research. At that point, you can decide if you want to join a union or learn the trade thru an Electrical Contractor. Also, by researching the field, you'll have a better idea what type of electrical work you would like to do. Start by going to the site I link below.
