They will take turns sitting on the eggs. I have never heard of them eating their young. In general, doves eat seeds.

Doves will share nesting duties. The male will sit usually in the morning till late afternoon and the hen will sit the night shift. Even two males will take up sitting on a nest together. Or three will nest together. I've seen two pairs sit and lay in one nest. and those chicks turned out the best I think because they had so many parents to feed them. They really want to nest. And they stick tight to their nests, not much scares them away. They are not known for pecking or eating their chicks. Doves don't even seem to like bugs as much as other birds. They love seeds and bits of bread or cronbread.
