There are a few ways to design websites. Fixed-Width - Absolute size Fixed-Fluid - What AB and most sites are Fluid - Fits whole screen The last is had to design for.

This website does fill the entire screen, IF you have your browser maximized. You don't see any content all the way down but near the top, both the left and right have content. There's just not enough to fill it all. You have to learn a bit about HTML and designing websites to really understand.

2 more points, a year+ late - -they design to meet the average monitor, so when everyone is 1600 x 1200, design may fit that, but they don't want to leave out the small ones, and the bleeding edge big ones are rarely optimized for, unless there are multiple versions of a design -it is known that it is harder to read really wide sections of text, that's why newspapers have columns; otherwise, the eye gets strained and tired or lost

I have multiple windows open. I run many applications simultaneously (than you, ADD!). My browser is set to occupy about half the width of my screen; I run 1600x1200 and most pages are set for 800x600. I can view more of the page vertically than I could if I set my monitor to 800x600 though, and the ability to set two windows side-by-side is awesome. Oh, and smaller pixels make images, movies, and games look smoother. Better. Compare these versions of my avatar at right.

I use 800x600 because of my vision, and my monitor is always full screen. But, yesterday I noticed about 1/4 inch black on the left side. I pushed the menu button under my screen, and went to the symbol that has a horizontal bar with an arrow on each end. Then I hit the plus + next to the menu, then the select button, and moved it up to 60 and that fixed it. Hope this helps.
