  • thats just you Southern folk.. up here in No Cal we say just the number like I got busted on 280 or some dude died on 101
  • I mix it up. I say the 10, the 101, the 60, the 202 but I still refer to I-17 as I-17. AZ.
  • I live in Northern California and we refer to Highway 101 as "101" or Highway 1 as "1". We call 5 "I-5"
  • In Santa Barbara, wonderfully bereft of freeways except Highway 101, people usually say "101". Sometimes, it's "the 101". And, of course, we say (and write) "Highway 101".
  • I live in Delaware, and it varies by which road. 95 is just 95. It'd sound silly to say "the 95". If pressed, it might be I-95. But then we have Route 4. But if you refer to Route 2, people look at you funny and ask if do you mean Kirkwood Highway. I-80 always has to have an I, but 476 is usually called the Blue Route, and 76 would sound funny with an I. It's local convention, and it's silly.
  • In Connecticut, we say the major highways differently. 'I-95', 'route 8', '84'. The Merritt Parkway is Route 15, but nobody calls it that.
  • For interstates, we generally say just the number or sometimes Route 80, Route 95 -- same for state roads. Garden Sate Parkway in The Parkway and the infamous New Jersey Turnpike is The Turnpike. Obviously, I live in New Jersey USA.
  • i say both and hear people here use both. the more common use is to call interstate 5, "I-5". with the highways here, some people use the number, some use the name of the highway, and some use the name of the road (which can change)! it makes for great confusion. :)
  • I live in Long Beach, CA and I say "the 7" for the 710 freeway, and "the 405" and "the 91"
  • Here in Montreal, there are several different names for the same highway. Canada # 1. Quebec # 40 The Trans-Canada Highway The T.Can. (what I call it) the part going through the city is called "Le Autoroute Métropolitan" or just "Le Mét".
  • I live on the central coast in San Luis Obispo county ( the most wonderful place in the state, outside of Yosemite) we call Highway 101, The 101, or just 101. we call Highway 1 either 1 or the coast highway. we call Highway 46 out of Paso Robles, 46, etc. This is way too cool of a place to live, to call roads by their full names!
