I think that is inevitable, which is terrible for all those who are hardworking doctors and have no connection with terrorism. However, it is difficult for Western people to distinguish one nationality from another, and so many innocent people will be marginalised. Then there are the bigots who couldn't care where someone was from. They will pick on them anyway. It is going to happen in Australia too. We already have one arrested and another under questioning, both foreign trained Muslim doctors, in connection with the British attempts.

I doubt these arrests will have an overall effect on the medical profession however I believe it is highly likely that specifically an even greater mistrust of Asian medical workers will arise from the recent arrests. Since the 9/11 attacks, the Iraq war and the London bombings I have observed a huge increase in the prejudice and discrimination here in the UK against Muslims and Asian people. People always seem to look for justification to accentuate their prejudice rather than to move away from it. Unfortunately these recent attempted attacks will probably lead to the arise of far more racist incidents involving Asian medical staff whom have got absolutely nothing to do with terrorism. There are individuals who are unable to distinguish between religious fanatics and anyone with a similar ethnic appearance or same base religion. This is very worrying and indicates the need for further education on the subject in our society to prevent the media whipping up hysteria regarding people from specific parts of the world or within a specific field.

There are so many Dr.s and medical students out there that are going to be misjudged because of a bunch of idiots! What a shame!
