The Book will always be better than the movie because it has more time to develop characters and situations. The number of words in a two hour script are much fewer than in the full book. Also, the book allows our imaginations to soar, the movie doesn't. As soon as a film crew photographs the scenery, our imaginations are limited by the director's view of what the author meant. Whatever they show of Alagaësia--the Beor Mountains, Carvahall, the Hadarac Dessert, or whatever--is then forever defined, limiting our ability to picture it in our heads. I guarantee that, however each of us picture these things in our own minds, the pictures in our heads are different for all of us.

I haven't seen the movie but from my experience, books generally are better than movies. The movies miss too many things that I find important in books.

I went and saw Eargon in the movies and nearly went to sleep. I thought the movie was horrible. The books are far better.

I haven't seen the movie or read the book, but I will guess that the book is better. You get the full story in a book, plus extensive characterisation. You use your imagination. I can use LOTR as an example. I loved the films (although some of the licence taken with storyline appalled me), but I am so glad I had read the books over and over...they helped me appreciate the trouble the filmakers went to in terms of set, actor choice and special effects.
