Glazing occurs when the disc or drum portion of the brake overheats and creates an oxide layer on the pads or disc/drum surface. sanding the pads and "turning"
the disc/drum (milling the surface layer off) usually will restore proper braking
performance. It is IMPORTANT to note however, that the remaining material
(pad thickness and drum/disc metal thickness) remains within manufacturer's
specifications for proper strength and heat dissapation. This number is usually stamped on the disc/drum, and the pads, unless new, are usuallycheap enough to replace anyway. So, do you need a $500.00 brake overhaul? I think not. $50.00 to $150.00 should be more than enough.
