  • If you hired the contractor by yourself, without discussion with the general contractor, the contractor has no right to charge you for it, unless it could be proven to affect the contractor's work or scheduling. In other words, if the contractor could prove that he or she incurred any financial expenses because of your actions, they would have a claim levy such a charge. If it was to correct problems caused by a sub after the work had been completed, the contractor would have no basis on which to make such a charge (i.e., the job was complete and the contractor was no longer actively working on the site).
