About how long are you suppose to boil water to remove contaminants and bacteria?

I've heard that 10 minutes of boiling is required, but I'm not an expert.

I think 10 mins is correct - that is now long you have to boil a baby's bottle for to make it sterile. On the same subject, if you use one of those little kitchen washing up sponges (they sometimes coming with a scouring pad on 1 side) and you want to make it sterile, just stick it in the microwave and cook for 2 minutes on full power. This kills anything on it or in it stone dead and is completely sterile when you take it out. (Be careful though, it will be hot).
