UK: When applying for your driving license after a drink driving ban, what does the medical involve? (am asking for a friend)

It generally involves a blood sample to show you are not still drinking or haven't done heavily recently this sample needs to prove this. They also examine the eyes for signs of damage, as the eyes and damage to them is related to heavy drinking. It's straight forward and takes very little time. I believe the medical is taken approx 3 months before the licence is due to be returned this allows for test results etc to be processed.
