Keep clear of places where spiders are likely to be prominent. This would include crawl spaces and wooded areas. This is by no means a permanent solution or lifestyle change. This is only advisable while working to get the phobia itself under control. Chart memories or imagined scenarios involving spiders in a journal. Rank these scenarios from least to most frightening. Try to conquer each imagined scenario on the list. Beginning with the easiest heightens chances of success. Learn what you can about spiders. Perhaps for some people, knowing how to tell dangerous spiders from non-threatening spiders can replenish a sense of control the person with arachnophobia has been robbed of. Consider talking to a professional about behavioral therapy. Most commonly used is the aversion method, where the patient is presented with the object that causes irrational fear (in this case a spider). The patient is taught to confront the fear and gradually work his/herself toward the object until the fear is eradicated Ask your doctor about the various anxiety medications most recommended for people suffering from phobias. See which one, if any, would be right for you.

A really big shoe usually does it for me. J/K I am an avid reptile freak-a-zoid and I cannot even look at a spider. I have been getting better by treating them like I do all animals...caution and respect. I have started gardenign and when I weed, I come across a lot of spiders. I just look at them. They don't bother me that much anymore. The last run in I had with a spider was a huge wood spider (the ones that are as big as mice) and it had about 300 babies on her back just walking around like she owned the place. It took every bit of nerve to take a big cup and a thick piece of paper to scoop her up and throw the cup and eveything out of the door. Spiders have their place in the eco-system too and believe it or not, Steve Irwin was afraid of spiders too. Just remember you are bigger than they are and you have shoes if you cannot conjure up the nerve to try to get rid of it without killing it.
