This depends on where you live. Direct TV uses several satellites to service different regions and, possibly, two dishes to handle all the stations in any particular region. Satellite locations can be found at http://www.geo-orbit.org/ . Television satellites are usually placed to cover a company's service area. The geosynchronous satellites they use are located over the equator. Direct TV is American, so the satellites it uses would be located around the same longitude as central US give or take a several hundred miles in either direction. Customers would align their dishes in a generally south-western direction if they lived on the east coast, in a south-eastern direction if they lived on the west coast, and to the south if they lived in central US. A Direct TV sales outlet will be able to provide you with the precise information. Satellite locations are usually included in the receiver's user manual, to assist in aligning the dish when it is installed.
