Simply put, stability. A high-wing plane is suspended from the wing and naturally wants to remain that way. A low-wing plane will gladly roll, but may not always be easy to keep level Compare hanging from tree limb as opposed to walking along it. Which is easier balance-wise?

Yes, they are wrong. God made all birds high wing, so low wing aircraft are flying upside down.
