  • I believe your doctor will probably let you know when you can resume sports activities.
  • That depends on what kind/how severe your injury was. A mild concussion isn’t going to come with a ton of terrible symptoms, so it might be tempting to get back in the game right away. However, that’s not such a good idea. Athletes are susceptible to something called second impact syndrome. Second impact syndrome is a fairly rare condition in which a second concussion occurs before a first concussion has properly healed. While it doesn’t occur very often, second impact syndrome is frequently fatal. So, better safe than sorry. If you have suffered a concussion, it’s best if you don’t return to sports until the symptoms of the initial head injury are gone. A couple days on the sidelines won’t hurt you, and it will ensure you have your “head” in the game for a long time to come. If your injury was more severe than a concussion, you should work out your game plan with the help of your doctor. And if you'll be participating in extreme sports, be sure to wear a helmet! http://www.brainandspinalcord.org/blog/2008/06/extreme-sports-lead-to-extreme-damage/
