Not yet. The problem with HIV (which leads to AIDS) is that it is a virus. The workings of viruses are still relatively unknown. They are strange organisms with some of the characteristics of living things and some of non-living things. This dichotomy makes it impossible to treat them with (say) anti-biotics. Their other difficulty for science is their ability to mutate. In a very short time, much shorter than bacteria, viruses can change their form enough to be able to resist any drugs that have shown effect upon them. So it is with the HIV virus. It mutates very quickly and becomes resistant to drugs only recently developed. Because of this, science has had to try and tackle the HIV virus using different methods eg inhibitors, gene therapy etc. Some headway is being made and if HIV can be defeated, it will open the floodgates for cures for other viral diseases eg bird flu, malaria, herpes etc
