hahaha yeah I have noticed that.. and it bugs me a little. that the Questions that would take more thought get looked over while the dumb ones get hundreds of replies.
-
Humour is often the best way of coming to terms with difficult issues.
-
yeh easier answers get answered faster and more often than questions that if you answer you might get down rated for what you say silly questions get silly answers and nobody hardly down rates silly questions. Plus isnt it fun to be a little silly now and then?
-
It happens. While everyone can describe themselves in one word, not everyone knows how to compare and contrast the Roman Empire to the Napoleonic one.
-
Good question are difficult to answer usually. The silly ones anyone could answer.
-
I have a stressful job so I come here for light hearted fun and stay away from the more serious questions. I come here for some laughs and I read the others for some good info but I gravitate towards the silly ones.
-
1) Maybe it could be avoided if you tried to look at your question with the eyes of others, for instance writing it down on paper and not immediately asking it. 2) Does a really good question always need a lot of answers?
-
Unfortunately, that is the way that Answerbag has worked for the past few months. More and more silly point farming questions are being asked. However, Answerbag should cater for everyone, and as long as we could get the balance right, then the site would be a great place for all users
-
I don't find it "strange," no. It's simply a testament to how different everyone is and where our interests lie as individuals. Nothing more, nothing less.
-
sometimes nobody is really in the mood to put that musch thought into giving you a really good answer to your really good question. but to give a silly answer to a silly question takes no time at all.
-
Ah, yes, there's the rub - going for quality or quantity . . .
-
yes, so true. I think it's just more enjoyable to talk nonsense for some people rather than get too serious.
-
This is true, and it's commonly observed and discussed. The basic cause is that nearly everybody can participate in "What's your favorite color?". People want to participate, so they do, so that question gets lots of attention. Not many people can answer "Why do I get error 0x800C0DDE from Microsoft Outlook when I close it?". So it doesn't get a lot of answers. This isn't bad of itself, it's a natural consequence of the way Answerbag works in its current form. It's basically a social networking site with some serious Q&A thrown in as a part-time job. Unless you're expecting something other than that, there's nothing to be upset about :)
-
Aye.. indeed. The people want to be entertained as much as exploited for both their encyclopedic knowledge and human perspective.
-
Yes!...what's up with that???...lol and frankly I find this question to be non-sense, so here's your points! :)
-
I like an occasional silly question. I believe the serious questions here get a good response.
-
No, you're not missing anything. That's the way most users spend their time here, and it's accepted.
-
I come here to have fun so I leave the serious questions to those who choose them. Every once in a while I'll answer a serious one but I'd rather have some fun.
-
SOME people may do. I personally like to 'mix it up'.
-
I couldn't tell you, maybe just because ppl like to stay in a good mood, and it is hard to do when ppl a cursing at one another in some forums, and than in others they are very serious situations, like rape or abuse. Some ppl just don't want to be brought down. I try to stick to the questions that I have had personal experience in or had someone close to me have this done in their lives. Think about it, it wouldn't help someone who really needs help in a serious situation if that person has no clue as to what is going on. I try to help if I can. Also some of these questions are asked multiple times and it gets old after awhile. You can look up the subject before you post a question to make sure that it has not been answered a million times before. I hoped this helped!;)
-
Do you think? I see that a lot of serious questions get plenty of answers. It all depends on the question, of course. If it's very specific, it will require people with knowledge in that field. People will answer serious questions if they have a pertinent answer or if they can't relate to it. The "silly" ones are likely to get more answers for various reasons: a) most people considered AB a pleasant passtime, for the most part; b) everyone know what their favourite song or movie is without having to put much effort into the answer. I see a lot of both really.

People generally go on-line for frivolous reasons: to entertain themselves. In that way, the internet is an extension of our televisions and stereo systems. We do not go on line for stress, but to RELIEVE stress. Of course, getting an ANSWER to a serious question might relieve the stress of the QUESTIONER, but it is more likely to cause a little stress to the answerer. Even, for instance, if you are a professor in the subject of the question, you still have to organize your thoughts, perhaps pull out a book. That is like working for free. I do this a lot. (I am a lawyer.) And generally the answers I spend the most time on, with professiona advice, researched and organized, the type I charge for, the questioner is LEAST appreciative of. I continue to plug away, and haven't quit trying to be a productive member of this community. But in my humble opinion, this is the reason few people walk this path.
-
most people enjoy being fun and crazy more then being serious
-
Yep. It's because it's easier to answer a mindless question than a thought-provoking one.
-
Amen! Is that really you? If so, you are beautiful!
-
yeah i asked this question 10 years ago
-
I come here for fun and leave the serious questions for those who want them. I have a stressful job so when I come here I want laughs and giggles.
-
Whats "silly" to some isnt to others.. its all a matter of perspective and choice! :D we all have dif ones but nothing stops us sharing them

The easy goofball questions anyone can answer. Usually does not require a lot of thought and many answers can fit. The more important questions require thought and sometimes a little research. Usually not many answers will fit. Once a good answer is given not many want to just repeat what has already been answered. Timing is also a big issue as when to ask a more thought out answer. Also the ones who answer do not always give any points because they can't be bothered. I mostly answer my friends questions as I know most of them that do ask always give points and of course I always give points. I feel that is one of the reasons we make friends on here is to find those who are most like we are and therefore the answers and points and comments are usually all great ones.
-
I think its just a matter of this, serious questions usually get passed on by people who dont know the answer. People like myself usually look it up, if its something that interests me. Goofball questions can be answered by many, and each with a different answer. So every one is right, and usually has fun answering. Its just about appealing to the "crowd" I suppose would be a good way to explain the way I see it. I hope this helps.

yes, i sometimes notice the same phenomenon here. here are some reasons why: 1. i think its primarily because lots of people gravitate towards levity. 2. depending on the subject, people may feel they are not true experts on that subject and dont want to give out misinformation. 3. in regards to deep philosophical questions, it depends on the person and their mood at that given point in time, there are some who are not in the mindset of probing too deep. 4. and then there are others who don't divulge really personal information with strangers. 5. sometimes people don't want to repeat an answer so they will award points as their way of saying they concur. i think over time with the development of more friends on answerbag, you will find the audience you seek. ask those serious questions you seek answers for, and the ones who are on your wavelength ~ the ones you are meant to connect with, will find you... remember its not the quantity in life. its the quality.
-
For some folks, thinking is painful and difficult while others may feel more comfortable approaching life as a joke or making a joke out of life because thinking about it is just too painful and difficult
-
The response to a serious answer is typically more heart-felt. There is a fear of your answer being trod upon whether by negative comments or DRs, which feels more like a personal attack compared to silly responses. Also, serious questions tend to be a little more specific in the answers they are looking for, so it may only take a few responses to cover all the possibilities.
-
Some factors: 1. The time you posted your questions. There are certain times when there are more people logged on to AB. I think 7 PM Answerbag time (that's PST) is a good time to post questions because a lot of American ABers are already at home. Around half of the members of Answerbag are Americans. 2. Maybe you posted them under the wrong categories. One purpose of placing our questions under the proper categories is to make it easier for people who are interested in a certain category to find questions related to that topic. 3. Let's face it, people tend to gravitate to easy questions. I don't expect my question: "Is import substitution a viable economic policy in today's globalized economy? Why or why not?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/449149 to earn as much points and receive as many answers as my "First thing that comes to mind" questions. It's human nature.

C'est la vie !
-
im right there with ya! i hate that
-
Surprising, ain't it? Same here, go figure.
-
You have only asked this one question, where you "laid your soul on the line", and it has four answers. "Why can't i find love? i am a paramedic, in shape, smart, funny, clean, successful, crazy, but very considerate, only 19, 6'4'', and a DJ. i just don't get it at all??
-
Could depend some people havent got the right answer to your serious questions but everyone has a sense of humour :)
-
Dont worry about it as it happens to me too.
-
Anybody can answer a silly question with hardly any thought. Serious questions need serious answers and background knowledge.
-
I think not all people want to work hard on AB. Some people enjoy the light interaction and have too much on their minds to answer the heavy questions. Having said that there are many Abers who give very thorough answers to questions.
-
Because the answer to this question is indeed a YES and therefore it stands http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/4555272
