It works for some, but may not work for you. Proactiv uses Benzoyl Peroxide to kill bacteria, in a moisturizing base. Benzoyl Peroxide alone tends to dry out skin, in some cases so much that it actually causes more breakouts.

The other general over-the-counter treatment uses sulfur as an active ingredient, which is simply a drying agent.

You need to go deeper than a symptomatic solution and understand WHY you have acne. Then you can go on to the best solutions.

There are a myriad of factors that can cause skin problems. Things to think about that may be causing problems:

Environment. What is up against your skin? Is the air humid, dry, dusty? do you use a humidifier or air ionizer?

Toiletries. What are you using for soap, shave cream, cosmetics, perfume, etc? Have you changed brands lately? Have you tried different brands to see if this cures the problem? Look for products that are hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic.

Water. Does your water have a heavy concentration of chlorine or minerals? Chlorine can dry the skin, causing overproduction of oil to compensate. There are on-showerhead filters to screen out some things like chlorine.

Diet. No, things like fried food and chocolate have not been clinically proven to cause acne. But it cannot hurt to drink more pure water, and to be certain you have a balanced diet.

Exercise. If you exercise a great deal, sweat and bacteria can cause acne. If you do not exercise enough, overall health will decline, making you susceptible to bacterial invasion (which can cause acne)

Clothing and bedding. What laundry detergents and fabric treatments are you using. Acne may be a reaction to these. How often do you change your sheets and clothes? Dirty linen harbors bacteria, encouraging acne.

Habits. Touching the acne can increase the amount of bacteria, making the problem worse. Opening the pimples opens up the skin to more bacteria. Washing too much can dry the skin, making the body produce more oil to compensate, blocking the pores and creating new pimples.

Hormones. Adolescence, menstruation, stress and some drugs can cause an alteration in the hormone balance, sometimes triggering acne.

Before you use Proactiv, consider all of the alternatives, such as Retin-A, lifestyle changes, product changes, seeing a dermatologist for professional advice.

If you buy Proactiv, do it from a vendor that offers a full money-back guarantee, and keep all of your records and receipts.

I've been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it's at.

I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life.

I'm 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy.

Literally the best acne face wash I've ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It's unique cause of it's herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem.com at the time which was helpful.

You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn't work it will still save you butt on the return policy.

Well good luck and best wishes.
