He is a very intelligent person. I at one point hated his views of a particular topic, but his arguments are well structured and above all, very funny. He claims he has not used advertising to promote his site. Given this, I would say there is something that people love about him/his site. My guess is his humourous views on topics such as childrens art work. It can't be classified as dark humour, but it's at the boundary. Some times through humour he raises excellent points.

Maddox is a badass! I have his book and I've probably read his whole site and his book about 3 times each. It's just funny shit!
