  • They're probably going into those spaces because they feel safest there. The best thing would to help them feel safe even when they aren't in there. Make sure that other animals (or children) don't have access to them when they aren't in hiding and keep loud noises to a minimum. Also, give them small, protected spaces that you can reach. It can be as simple as a box with an entrance hole in the side. If you can, let them stay where they are as long as they feel necessary. If they can choose when to come and go they'll feel safer. If all else fails, you might have to block off access to those areas. Duct tape and cardboard is usually enough.
