  • Honestly, I probably wouldn't do anything unless I was 100% sure the person was shoplifting. Then, I would alert an employee.
  • I'd probably say something to them. Unfortunately, if you alert an employee, and they did not see it, all they can do is follow them and watch for them to do it again. They cannot take the word of a customer against another.
  • If I was POSTIVE, I'd probably yell "THEIF. VALJEAN, STEALING AGAIN." And smack them with my cludge and take a pinch of snuff.
  • I actually caught a shop lifter once, it was at a local market and I saw him grab an item from a vendor, I followed him until I saw some security guards and then assisted in apprehending the theif, the cops soon showed up and I gave a statement of what I witnessed and they carted the crook off to jail. The vendors were very happy and bought me lunch, I thought that was kind of them but it wasn't neccessary. A few months later I and a friend of mine assisted some mall security guards chase down a shop lifter, the way we were dressed made the shoplifter stop in their tracks as we could have been easily mistaken for undercover cops, Mall security had us follow them to give a statement and the Malls management gave us each a fifty dollar gift certificate to some of the malls vendors, again kind but not neccessary. We were just doing our part as noble citizens.
  • Turn him in. In the long run this costs you money. Stores increase prices to cover these losses.
  • I would say something to the person, but I don't think I would turn them in.
  • Turn them in to the nearest Clerk/Security Officer. I work for what I own, why should I let someone make it harder for me by driving up prices?? And if it turns out they are in GENUINE poverty or whatever - they need to be identified as such so that they can get the help they need.
  • I'd make a comment to the person and allow them the chance to put the item back. If they didn't, I'd alert a store employee.
  • I will look for an employee and tell them. Shoplifting cost is eventually passed on to the regular customers.
  • Depends on what they are lifting. EXAMPLE: If its bread or other needed food item, I would purchase it for them. EXAMPLE: If it was alcohol I would pull them aside and explain to them that they need a program of recovery. Other stuff, well I would let security deal with it.
  • Depends. If I saw some woman taking baby food, diapers, baby oil, etc., I might take her aside & have a word with her. But someone taking CDs, video games, etc., yeah, I'd notify store management.
  • Not only would I turn them in, but I would make a spectacle of them. It pisses me off to see people stealing property from another person.
  • I'd watch them making sure I had enough evidence that when they left the store I could arrest them.
  • If I actually SAW them doing it, I would do again, what I once did, before. I contacted the store manager and told him what I saw. We positioned ourselves (with some security back-up) outside the store. When the customer walked out, he was confronted by the manager and store security, and I made a citizen's arrest on the guy. The stolen stuff was found on him (via a police search) and he was toted off to jail. The manager then invited me back into the store, and told me that I could purchase anything I wanted that day, WITH a courtesy "employee discount." So, I got some nice stuff, for the same price the store employees paid. I didn't have to testify, because the perp admitted his guilt at the arraignment. One time, in a grocery store, I told the manager, "I saw a customer taking a leek in the produce section!" For some reason, they sent an employee over there, with a MOP. Naturally, the person NEVER got caught, who had taken that leek.
  • I would notify store personnel and let them handle it.
  • cheer them on lol
  • I have seen a person shoplifting a mickey of gin from a liquor store but said nothing. He saw that I saw him do it.I figure it is their business not mine.
  • Detain them, call the cops, pull the video and press charges. The profit margins in my store are small enough without people stealing from me. I dislike the term shoplifting. I have caught people who actually say 'it's not like I'm stealing, it's only shoplifting'.
  • Let them... Have you ever seen store security? They are wanna be spies, with inspector gadget complexes who believe they are cops or secret agents. They take their jobs WAY too seriously and get off on catching little old ladies stealing lipstick because Social security makes them live on nothing!
