  • Definitely bad. Very, very, unimaginably bad.
  • A good thing. I am an ex user, and its not just because of that reason why I think it should be legalised. But, illicit street heroin is mixed with so many dangerous substances and it comes in varying strengths, both causing deaths and overdose. Also, crime is related to illicit heroin as it is so expensive, people find it extremely difficult to keep up an addiction, so they resort to stealing/prostitution etc. This could all be illiminated if it was legalised due the fact that it would be made by legal companies, adding nothing dangerous to it. Fair enough it would be pure but it could be administered in much smaller doses. I think heroin made in this was would be a better way to treat heroin addiction in comparison with methadone (which I take) as that is more addictive than heroin itself.
  • If you like dodging bullets and dodging heroin addicts drivers on the road, then its a bad thing. If you like to watch suicides in progress, then its a bad thing. If you want to see home invasions, armed robberies, rapes and the crime rate soar, its a bad thing. Legalizing heroin, would be like placing a gun to each others head and pulling the trigger. a new civil war between the addicts and non-addicts. And. may the best man or woman........win.
  • Very, very bad.
  • In Australia during the 50's Morphine addicts could take their prescription down to their local chemist (drug store) and he would make them up their dose. I have always thought this was a great idea. People are going to take drugs regardless of what society says. At least this way the drugs are safe, clean and you lose the criminal element selling drugs. If you can't stop them taking drugs why not have it Government run and then the money that is made from the drugs should be put into programms to help them quit.

And. may the best man or woman........win." that is an absolutely dumb answer. if heroin was legal there would probably be 50% LESS of this going on, although i think your totally naive if you think most heroin addicts are violent people. prices would go down, making it affordable. it would be available in pharmacies instead of off the street. the only thing that i think would be bad was if some kids thought that since it was legal, it must not be dangerous. that would be a terrible thing to happen.
  • We're in the middle of a civil war anyway. Thousands of Peace Officers know the so-called "War on Drugs" is a farce and ignore it except when they come face-to-face with it. We should legalize all drugs then tax hell out of them and use the money to further medical science to help the users. A side benefit would be we'd have our police forces around to fight crime which would be vastly reduced. Everyone wins. Especially the parents of young girls who are being exploited by guys who tell them they "love" them then get them hooked so bad they end up on the street peddling themselves. If you doubt it just remember one thing THERE WOULDN'T BE SELLERS IF THERE WERE NO BUYERS.
  • fuck no an i would get high every day
  • I think it would be pretty bad. Legal issues aside, heroin is not a "harmless" drug, the way much of society considers alcohol or marijuana to be. Heroin has serious physical repercussions, i.e. deadly withdrawal symptoms, amazingly high addiction and relapse rates, etc. People who became addicted, whether it was illegal or not, would spend every dime they have to buy more, and in many cases, resort to criminal acts, prostitution, or other criminal means to get the money for their fix when they had no more $$ of their own to spend on it. If you run out of pot, it just sucks. If you run out of heroin, you could die.
  • the heroin production is not the only place the taliban get funding...you guys are dumb if you think this could be a positive thing...especially the ex user chick? did you like the way the heroin made you fell? how bout after you went through withdrawl? why would you want to make it easier for anyone to end up like you did? the whole world would become addicts and slaves to a most addictive horrible substance. make heroin legal? hell why don't we make crack and meth legal too then...the world would be so much better then.
  • It would be a good thing. It is a really complicated issue, but the public health benefits and cost reductions associated with legalizing heroin use would far outweigh any "increase in use" that legalization might possibly cause. The issue is that locking up certain segments of the population is more lucrative than legalizing heroin; the drug war is a big business, and a little thing like public policy or health is not going to get in the way.
  • All drugs should be legal. Government would implement taxation; private companies would distribute, provide marketing, etc. Same as alcohol and tobacco. My 2 cents.
  • Absolutely heroin should be decriminalized. If someone wants to try injecting a substance into their arm to get high no law is going to stop them. The focus should be on educating people on why heroin is bad. Throwing these people in jail accomplishes nothing. One important point I don't think anyone mentioned is that if heroin was legal it would be much easier for addicts to get clean needles. This would obviously help stop the spread of HIV among users. The unavailability of clean needles makes a drug addiction end up being an incurable disease. These HIV positive drug addicts (who are usually uninsured) are now an even greater burden to the healthcare system.
  • It would be BAD. The repercussions of that would be devastating. Making it legally available would mean the government is giving it the green light, and I bet people would still sell it on the street anyway, so that would still be a problem. I wouldn't want the government to be responsible for that kind of crap, and cater to people's irresponsible addictions.
  • My answers are mainly in comments, but decriminalization would be great, but it would take the profit out of the prison industrial complex.. OH NO! We can't have poor prison builders and poor guards out of work now can we?
