It's called social responsibility. Those who appear to be interested in helping the community can get a more loyal customer base. It's all about the bottom line - don't kid yourself, they don't really care.

I work for a non-profit orginization and we get a lot of corporate support from all over the place. I think its a marketing thing because we advertise for them in return.

Only if they get something back in return. They'll give you a backrub, just so long as you'll donate your baby for medical research.

yes they do!!!! it makes them look so much better. some companies like do it for greater good, but other companies often use it for marketing. but the bottom line, is that every major for profit company is focused on making money and keeping it so...

You have heard of Bill Gates, of course. Founder and Grand Poohbah of Microsoft. Richest man in America? He and his wife, Melinda, have formed a Charitable Foundation from which they donate millions and millions. I think Mr. Gates very much cares...and shows it...and is humble about it. Google the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. As a Foundation...there is no personal tax write-off for him. Just good folk.
