  • Absolutely. As a witness, you have no obligation to try and assist a bleeding man. Unless you are a registered paramedic or doctor, it would potentially make things worse if you tried to assist him, and you could get sued if you did something that is not medically proper. Even with the proper credentials (medically-speaking), if your life is at stake, I am pretty sure you're clear to call the cops in first to secure the area before performing your first aid duties. Again, you did the right thing... if you were on good terms with your neighbor and he's in the hospital, proper etiquette follows to at least send a card, and possibly visit him in the hospital. Best of luck to you!
  • If the tables had been turned, would you have been concerned if your neighbor had not called the police for you? This is what life is all about. helping each other.
  • I think you did the best you could, though whether it was the right thing... I don't think so. It's not your fault though. You had sufficient reason to fear for your own physical safety and (apparently) lack the courage to risk physical harm to get too close to the situation. Also bear in mind that most military men and emergency personnel are a little more hardened to that sort of thing and might forget that civilians might be a little more... cautious. Mr. Pennington and I would be more willing to go into harms way than most people, but your unwillingness/inability to do so is not your fault, nor is it wrong. At least you called the authorities. Many people would not have even made that little gesture. As I said, you did what you could.
  • As long as you think you've done the right thing you have. Put in a similar situation who knows what we would all do - Well done you and don't feel so mixed up about the whole thing!!!
  • Of course you did. You wouldn't have been much help if you had run over there and gotten yourself shot and killed.
  • I don't know about right or wrong, but you deffinately didn't do anything that most people wouldn't do so if your upset with your self don't be. You did what you knew to do and that's perfectly fine.
