  • Where? Boston has narrow streets; we are talking about 25 feet wide if there is parking on both sides, 18-20 if parking on one side only. The town I grew up in had mostly narrow streets. If you don't park on the sidewalk, others can't easily pass. If you took a Hummer down those streets, oncoming traffic means practically automatic collision. Some streets are wider. They actually have enough space for two cars to park and two to drive without having to slow down to avoid collisions. I rarely see those though, at least not in any area most would consider "suburban". In short, there really is no average.
