  • When Chrysler came out with the PT Cruiser, it was marketed as a sporty family car. It target marketed those consumers who wanted something more sporty than the standard sedan or minivan. PT is the abbreviation for Part Time, e.g. Part Time Cruiser. Thus even though it was a full time family car, it doubled as a PT sports car. At least this is what I learned during my tenure with a Dodge dealership.

  • PT stands for "panel truck". The PT Cruiser looks almost identical to the panel trucks made up until about the early 70's, except about 1/3 to 1/2 the size. They were used primarily for construction and delivery purposes.
