I love wearing them for the same reason I love wearing dresses and skirts. The feminine factor. I like to look, act, and feel feminine at all times. I don't even own a pair of running shoes.

Well I personally stand it because I want to look taller/slimmer/like the effect they have. It's vanity basically!

If I wear them to a bar or club, that extra tequila shot when I arrive helps the situation tremendously!

And if I wear them to a restaurant, I can relax my feet while we're seated.

The rest of the time, I am fueled by self-confidence in how good I look to try and ignore the pain. Or I just go home to change my shoes if it's really bad. Or ask my friend to borrow her flip flops! That last one happened this past weekend when I wore some striking white heels to a party, only to find out we were playing croquet.

I love the way they look, and I like the way they force me to shift my weight when I walk. They don't hurt my feet at all, so I don't mind wearing them one little bit. I find them very comfortable, actually, and I like the added bit of height, even at 5'10" in bare feet.

To be honest I don't necessarily find high heels that uncomfortable. As long as the heel isn't too thin and I'm strapped into them they're fine. Certain flat shoes can be equally uncomfortable (particularly those slip on ones that you have to scrunch your toes up to hold them onto your feet, I've never understood those)- and according to my Mum's back specialist it's just as bad for your posture to wear flat shoes all the time as it is to wear really high ones - ideally you should vary your heel heights between days. So you heard it here first guys: now go buy yourselves a nice pair of wedges.

I can't - never wear them if I can help it.

    They ruin your feet.

More and more men are becoming high heel wearers. I know this question is asking for replies from the ladies, but as one of the male wearers of stiletto heels, hopefully, my reply could be helpful in answering.

Wearing high heels is an artform that takes familiarity with each new pair to make sure they fit properly, that they aren't too high, and they have the comfort you expect from your footwear before wearing them out in public venues. Beside the obvious physical difference from a flat to the raised support, many feelings people have while wearing such beautifully sculpted footwear can't be summed up by one individual. One of these feelings is like elegantly presenting yourself on two lovely and portable pedestals before the world. Some people hate the appearance of their feet, so they choose to wear heels to hide the perceived eye sore. Another reason to wear heels is from seeing so many other people transform their countenance just by their putting on some heels.

Often a pair of heels are purchased solely for how they look. Sometimes the few minutes trying them on and looking fantastic in them at the store is not enough for the long term fit. Each person's feet are unique. Most heels are mass made which may take a breaking in period and possibly some extra customizing to correct an undesired quality.

Heels can be so high that graceful movements can't be achieved. Watching some people awkwardly hobble around in heels is agonizing for all. A person's balance and endurance are also compromised. Some people have the ability to wear really high heels, while others are more limited. Through a lot of practice in wearing incrementally higher heels, some can raise their heel height limit, if they really want to do it.

Some footwear are like tight splints. They restrict the foot's agility and blood circulation when worn in a state of idleness or of being stationary, like when a person stands or sits for a length of time. After a while the foot starts to ache and/or tingle, because the foot needs to move just like the rest of the body. Even in a restful sleep, our bodies normally move to gain more comfortable positions to decrease any points of perceived pressure or pain. The cut or styling of some high heels may place an edge or a seam in an area of the foot that becomes a point of hurt as you wear them. Many of the low cut vamps are known for this distress.

To those who are veteren high heelers, these tidbits are all too commonplace. Hopefully this will help those who are beginning to wear high heels. I have always desired to wear heels and when I put my first pair on, I knew they were the type of footwear I wanted in my choices of attire. What you wear is your choice, not someone elses. You must, however, use some discretion. In most cases, you shouldn't wear a swimming suit and heels to a Sunday church service or take part in a beach volleyball tournament wearing a tux and heels, unless you have no regards for yourself and the appropriateness of your attire.

    Happy Heelin'

I usually just wear them for performances since my feet don't like them very much. I've got dance shoes with low heels, about an inch and a half and a solid heel. If I had to wear heels more I'd go with low heels like that so I get a little height and look more stylish but aren't that hard on my feet. Though I would look for slightly more stylish looking shoes than my dance shoes, just keep about the same height.

I wear them to look a little taller and because my pants are a few inches too long for me. Other than that, I hardly ever wear them because I always trip in them.
