  • I took basic training a few years ago and they did allow you to make phone calls although every limited. It is quite possible that it depends on your field your going into and where you have the training.
  • They allow limited phone and letter writting to ween the Boots off their families and to make them come to relie on each other and the COs for support. If they let them talk to the families when ever this wouldn't happen. As for the internet they want them to have absalutely no contact with the outside world in the form of any media so they can concentrate better on becoming soilders. That's why they take their books and magizines away too.
  • you are allowed to make phone calls....only for a limited amount of minutes during certain hours of the day.
  • The objective at basic is to break you of your personal life and instill a sense of uniformity and team loyalty. Too much contact with one's outside/prior life could interfere. At basic, the recruits are treated like dirt. Walked all over by drill sergeants and other instructors. In the last few weeks of basic, they let up a little, treating you like grass. The let you grow a little, knowing that you will need to have some self confidence when you go to your specialty training and then on to your first assignment. During those two weeks, they treat you like grass, you grow a little, but they still walk all over you to make sure you understand the disicipline and need for team loyalty.
