It doesn't. Adding a teaspoon into the neck will reduce the volume of the spout but it will accomplish nothing in keeping the gas in solution. The gas in solution will behave in the manner described by physic. It will escape faster when warmer and only if the air pressure above the liquid is less than the equilibrium pressure was when the bottle was closed.

It isn't just any teaspoon, it is supposed to be an actual silver spoon. Since I have not tried this but have heard of it, I can not stand for the validity of the fable.

I heard that it's not that putting a silver spoon on a wine bottle will keep it fizzy it just keeps the taste savory.

A teaspoon in any glass bottle of fizzy drink which is more than 1/3 full WILL keep the liquid fizzy in the fridge for up to about three days. Don't ask me why - I don't know. I learnt this when living in Argentina as a child, with old fashioned glass coke bottles. I've been saving my champagne this way for the last 20 years or more and it works! I've only ever used stainless steel teaspoons. I've not tried silver and I have my doubts that plastic would work.
