  • Here are some home remedies I found on line for treating fever blisters. Hope at least one of these tips works! :-) Speed seems to be of the essence when tackling a cold sore. So bear that in mind when reading the first couple of tips listed here: A wonderfully simple home remedy for cold sores (fever blisters): As soon as you realize you have a cold sore coming on, apply Witch Hazel to the site with a Q-tip. It will immediately stop the process, and prevents further spread of the blisters. Apply Witch Hazel frequently, and healing time is shortened to a fraction of normal healing time. Use a warm tea bag on a cold sore. Press it to your mouth for 20-30 mins. The next day it will be gone! I didn't believe this when someone told me, but I tried it (and felt really silly) - but when I woke up next morning it had completely disappeared! When you feel that first tingle, grab an ice cube and hold it on the cold sore. Get the spot cold but be careful not to hurt your skin. This will seize the process, or at least lessen the size of the sore. I have had the following tip sent to me that will actually dry up the sore. Making it heal in 2 to 3 days. It is advised that you be a little strong, as there can be a rather intense stinging. Grind some table salt with the back of a teaspoon. Moisten your index finger & dip it in the powdered salt. Press the powder into the cold sore & hold it there for 30 seconds. Don't rinse. It will be quite uncomfortable but if done twice a day for 2 - 3 days, the sore will dry up.
  • I used to get cold sores on the inside of my mouth when I was younger and my dad had me put alum on them. Alum is used to pickle things, so you can find it in the spice/seasonings isle of your grocery. It taste awful but it works in one or two applications. For the outside sores it stings just a bit but again, helps pretty quickly.
  • This is going to sound REALLY, REALLY gross, but i read in a home remedy book once that as soon as you feel the "itch" (and i have used this before, and i have had cold sores ALL MY LIFE), rub some EARWAX on it. YES earwax. Use a cue tip if needed, use your finger...whatever...and it DID stop it SEVERAL TIMES. Don't think i am gross, but that is what i was told. Having these ALL my life, i will try ANYTHING. Anything is better than hiding part of your face for 2 weeks!!!
  • i truly believe the only remedy for cold sores/fever blisters is patience. i have tried everthing and the only thing that worked was for them to run their course. i have pain so bad from them before that i would literally have tried anything. nothing ever worked to make them go away.
  • I habitually get cold sores on my lip in the same spot at least once a year. The best remedy I've found is Abreva. It's a cream you can buy at a drug store...a little expensive but it really does the trick AND helps relieve the pain. It works even better than the pill prescription my doctor gave me.
  • A wonderfully written blog on “How to cure a cold sore in one day" worked for me. It’s written by Lab Rat v-Ki-ras2. This treatment worked very well, which is more than I can say for any medication I’ve tried over the years. FYI: This isn’t some wannabe product by a company trying to make a buck off your misery. • Buy a bottle of hydrogen peroxide, switch it around in mouth, DO NOT SWALLOW. Brush and floss........not need for expensive medicines. Also a paste of baking soda/water, on cold sore for about 1 min. Clean off gently, and use warm water to rinse mouth completely. Brush, floss. Also use swish warm water in mouth to hold the pain down if you have canker sore. Abreva is way to expensive, when you can get hyd. pero. for $1
  • Use Abreva, it works very well.
