A Favourite toy, or object of that kids interest - "pet" insect, interesting Rock (along with the story of how it was found, where, what it makes them feel etc) It could be any object, that has a story behind it. Kids love to talk, and can do so about almost anything :)

My son took our greyhound and told them about his racing career and then retirement.

We never really had it :-( Except for this one time in about year four when we had to take objects to express our identity. I just took random toys lol
