If he is it's probably because of the response he had at a gig in Glasgow a year or so ago. He stood at the front of the stage clapping his hands together slowly for about a minute. Then he said, "Every time I clap my hands a child dies in Africa". With typical Glaswegian wit somebody shouted, "Well for f***s sake stop clapping".
