  • If you have experienced either working for other carpenters or from a school. Perhaps you should advertise your skills in your local papers. If you havent received training as a carpenter you may need to work for a carpenter for a while to get the knowledge of how to do the job. It this is the case just look in the jobs ads of of your local paper esp on Saturdays for job offers of Carpenters assistant or helper. If you dont know any carpentry at all yet you can go to a nearby community college and major in Construction Technology or Carpentry depending on what they call it at your local community college. You still need to decide if you are going be a Framing Carpenter or a Finish Carpenter. Framing builds houses usually with wood studs sometimes with steel studs and Finish Carpenters build the cabinets etc inside the kitchens and restrooms and bedrooms of homes. Also Finish Carpenters install the door and windows of houses. You're gonna need a contractors license also.Which your local county or state goverment gives tests for. The community college also offer classes in getting a contractors license. There are Trade programs for entry level carpenters to become journeyman. Once you join a union they can help you with jobs also. Hope the helps.
